"Pegasus 2" is one of the most complex paintings I've ever done. This isn’t just a matter of detail (e.g. “Dirty Old Town” is detailed but less complex). For example, Pegasus has a compositional balance that was reworked many (many!) times on paper before the design was finally committed to canvas.
The painting has multiple overlapping, complementary or contrasting symbols or themes - principally Human versus Nature but also Heaven versus Earth, Sun and Moon, conflict and harmony, two dimensional versus three dimensional representation, etc
As with "Woman with Hurdy Gurdy", which was completed around the same time, this is influenced by Cubism but takes a small step towards something more 'Deco'
